Is it illegal to download an album for free?

You’ll probably be thinking “yes” straight away when reading the title of this entry but there is just a slight catch. I think I am going to rephrase the question:

“Is it illegal to download an album for free if you already own it but cannot put it onto your mp3 player because of copy protection?”

You see this is a bit of a dilema in my eyes as I do not know how legal this is. I mean I already own the CD so therefore as part of my consumer rights be allowed to do what I want with it as long as it doesn’t break the terms of the record company or watever it is. So putting copy protection on a CD is validating my consumer rights, right? Wrong in the Governments eyes. Big companies = big profits = donations to the government or something meaning consumer rights go out the window.

But I still haven’t got anywhere closer to answer this question. I mean in my view I should be allowed to download the album for free because the record company has put unfair locks on something which I own and therefore I should be allowed to do what I want with. I have no intention on sharing this album but I want to be able to listen to it without having to install software which could potentially fuck up my computer (this album is from Sony BMG and we all know their DRM protection has been bought into question recently).

I mean I don’t think I can answer this question so if someone can actually enlighten me that would be great. I shouldn’t even have to be in the position of having to download the album but apparently I am, not good Sony BMG- hang your head in shame.

Long time, no update

I discovered I have not actually updated this for quite a while now. I think this has something to do with me working on the new site the hardcore life.

I also don’t really have anything to update with actually. All I’ve been doing the past week is a bit of revising, some drinking and a bit of extreme ironing (which can be seen on the site). I also spent most of saturday at a garden centre with my mate Starkey and this bird Louise. I basically moved heavy stuff around for free and then spray painted a t-shirt with Louise and also stole a hammock.

I think that pretty much sums up my life for the past week or so. Tata xx

Pimp my Snack

The pimping of snacks is the biggest crazy in the UK at the moment (well not really). It all started off from pimpmysnack where the owner of the site pointed out that over the years snacks have shrunk in size and that this problem has to be dealt with. The solution: the pimping of snacks.

This is one of the funniest things so me and Duncan decided to follow one of the pimps on the site, pimp my twix and the results can be shown below.

Pimp my Twix

Started off by trying to get all of the ingredients for the recipe. We noticed it was all Tesco own brand so decided to go to Tesco. When arriving we saw this.

An old man getting into a Subaru, we laughed and thought it was funny. Anyway went on a search through Tesco and found everything except for Dulce de Leche (which is like Golden Syrup except so much better) but luckily the all knowledgable old man looked it up on the computer and found it for us.

After a big search for cardboad for the case and giving up we returned to Duncan’s house to make the product.

These ar all the ingredients collected together. The case had to be made to store the twix. We made on monster sized mould because we couldn’t be bothered making two as can be seen below.

Now the hard work began. Melting of the chocolate…

…and…
4 Mmmmm pot of melted chocolate.jpg

After much melting all the chocolate was melted and we poured a fair bit into the container but not to much.

From this point on I forgot to take photos until the end, oh well. Basically we found that the chocolate would take to long to set in the fridge so it was put in the freezer for 20 minutes. Once this was done we dug a slight trench in the chocolate and put a load of Dulce de Leche in and then put some shortbread on top of it for the biscuit of the twix before covering it in chocolate again putting back in the freezer for a while.

The final product was removed from the freezer and the casing was removed. We found that there was a bit of foil under the chocolate which took a bit of effort to remove.

Here is the first comparison of the amazing pimp of the Twix.
7 Comparison before the chop.jpg
We were happy with the result…

And the final comparison? A cross section of the product.

I have to say that it tasted very nice but still sickly.

Watch out for some more pimps to come.

The Butterfly take 2

I went to see The Butterfly again on thursday, the only reason this post is late because it is bank holiday weekend which means a lot of drinking. Anyway I was supposed to be going with Brown, Starkey and Emma but Starkey bailed out and then Brown forgot and was filing a lock off his shed when I phoned him so it was just me and Emma.

We go there for about 8 thinking that’s when it is all going to start and stuff- we were wrong. I think it must of all been a bit behind hand because I don’t think it was even doors until 8:30. Saw Bulletproof and he informs me that they are playing last. I would like to point out that I am very tired at this point and have driven in some I can’t even drink.

Turns out they’re not playing until 10:15 but they actually start playing at 10:40 and we couldn’t stay for the whole set so only got to see 2 songs.

I see Bulletproof just before they are due to start and he is in vest and shorts so I thought it was going be quite a funny gig. Anyway the band go away; the drummer returning, sitting down and putting army paint on his face before removing his tap to reveal a face painted on his stomach. He starts playing and the rest of the band enter. The second guitarist is in a 3 piece suit and a ski mask; the bassist has a bandage over his face so he cannot see anything and Bulletproof enters with a batman suit on.

Everyone went mental it was great. The pub they were playing at was a student pub and all the band are students so it was all crazy but everyone was relaxed which led to it being a really good performance even though we all only saw 2 songs.

Go check this band out, they are really good (photos to follow).

End of Tabkings.com

That’s right, my original website tabkings.com is going to be no more fairly soon. This is because the domain has to be renuied soon and I have no intention of doing this surprisingly enough. The site never really took off mainly due to lack of content (ie tabs) and I tried to convert it into some sort of review site but that failed as well.

It currently has no active members from my knowledge. It was quite a nice site and my first real community I made so will be a shame to see it go.

But all is not lost. I am planning on buying a new domain soon, which is still undecided. From this a website based on the hardcore rules as well as other things such as the free running and extreme ironing which is undertaken by me and my friends.

Hopefully this new website will be more of a success and don’t worry, this blog will be on it under http://blog.wateversiteiscalled.com so you won’t be getting rid of me that easily I am afraid.
